Laney | ‘Something Blue’ Bridal Shower

courtneywoodhamphoto-3-13

This week is the last week in preparation for my sister, Laney’s, wedding. Over the last months, as each milestone of the planning has passed, a flood of bittersweet, mixed emotions have pulled at my heart strings. Laney made the statement several times over the last few months that “things will never be the same again,” how true this is. This week also marks a year of marriage for Justin and I and those mixed emotions have only grown stronger as I realize our wedding day is another memory… a day that we will never be able to relive and be physically present in again. In those moments, it feels as though you couldn’t be happier and more fulfilled, and when you look back, you feel still yet, maybe you didn’t cherish them enough. If only you had felt the gravity of that first kiss as husband and wife, when he took your hand to turn and face all those who love and celebrate with you so well as you’re announced Mr. and Mrs, the first time you signed a new last name to yours, and as you cut the cake and toast to forever; those moments and the gravity that they’ll never happen again, but also the joy, as there is an abundance of moments just as special, to happen in all the years ahead. As all these thoughts flooded my mind this week, I have also thought about my heart toward my sister getting married and really wanting the ability to share with her the importance of finding that joy and fulfillment, and also peace in the midst of the chaos of planning a wedding. I want her to be able to reflect a year from now and know without a shadow of a doubt that she cherished every moment.

As we began planning her bridal shower, above all, my heart was for her to know how loved she is. She has shown me immeasurable love and given me more strength than she will ever know and I wanted for her to feel an outpouring of that same love and to know how proud I am of her and for her. There have been several nights over the last months that she has so willingly shared her heart with me, and as a family, we have all felt so overwhelmingly blessed to have family and friends surrounding us. I am forever thankful for all of those that shared in celebrating her and poured out love over her and Cody.

The theme, “Something Blue,” came as I observed her love for the tradition of a wedding while embodying an elegant and feminine feel. Everyone that attended the shower wore a shade of blue in honor of the bride, and of course, Laney wore white. It turned out to be adorable!

Wil & Kallie | Garden Engagement

courtneywoodhamphoto-3-31

I had the privilege of meeting Wil and Kallie through my sister several years ago and what started out as an  acquaintance with these two quickly turned into a friendship. Being around them individually, and as a couple, they just have this way of making life seem much less overwhelming. Their easy and carefree love for the other is infectious, from the frequent giggles that erupt from Kallie, to the ear-to-ear smiles that effortlessly reach Wil’s eyes when he looks at her. Wil surprised Kallie with a proposal upon her return from a girls trip to New York City and as she told me all those sweet details, her face lit up with all the adoration and love that her heart could hold. In these moments, I am always reminded of the reasons that I believe in what I do… why I truly believe in this craft. An engagement is the first monumental step of commitment toward a life together and it is an incredibly beautiful thing to document the depth of love that accompanies this step… and the next.

I am so excited for Wil and Kallie’s next step in the Spring, as they marry at a farm in Georgia.

Welcoming Baby Eva

courtneywoodhamphoto-2-80

As I walked into the creative and wedding industry, six years ago, I can distinctly remember that it has the tendency to feel much like looking at a train coming toward you head on. The industry as a whole is overwhelming and you are suddenly swept up in a sea of others, all with immense gifts and talents. But when you look deeper, you find that that same overwhelming sea is actually made up of individuals who much like you, are just trying to make it on heart and passion. Brittany is one of those gems that the wedding industry allowed me the opportunity to meet and build a relationship with; and seriously, she is gold. Aside from being one of the best makeup artists I have crossed paths with, she is so genuine with a precious heart. In the last couple of years, this girl has traveled with and for me over Alabama, Georgia, and Florida. I so cherish this friendship we’ve found and the light and happiness she brings with her. I have no doubt this woman is going to make a wonderful mother. I am so excited to watch their journey unfold as she and Rob welcome Baby Eva into the world. Plus, Eva is going to be one gorgeous baby! 😉

I couldn’t resist splurging on a few outfits to help Brittany fill that closet of Eva’s, though I am sure she isn’t having much trouble in that area. Have you seen her nursery? It’s incredible and Brittany’s style is to die for! Check out her Instagram here https://www.instagram.com/makeupbybrittanywindham/ to see her latest post of the nursery (or even if you’re just in need of an awesome makeup artist!)

Emily | Summer Portraits

Courtney Woodham Photo-2-54

Emily is filled with so much joy and it was inspiring as I spent the afternoon watching that joy pour out of her while I talked with her about dancing and laughing through her session to really bring her personality through in her images. To me, portraits are so much more than images taken at a time in life, but more so about a time in life. I want for Emily to be able to look back at these senior portraits and really feel strong and beautiful, and to know that this season in her life is about growth and stepping into that place as a young woman; but that that’s all it is… a season, and it passes all too quickly. I think these images really portray the strength and beauty that Emily encompasses so well.

Oh, sweet girl… the light and joy you exemplify, hold it close.

Jennifer & Trey | Vineyard Wedding

8841_15

I met Jennifer when I was in college and instantly noticed that her joyous laugh and laid back personality were infectious to all those around her. When she reached out to me, letting me know she was engaged and in need of a wedding photographer, the distinct memory of so many of her friends joking with her about when Trey might pop the question and her giddiness each time the subject came up flooded back into my mind. In the following weeks, Jennifer and I talked and planned and each time I saw more of that genuine, devoted, and tender heart she pours out in love for those around her. She began shaping an intimate ceremony based entirely on a beautiful and meaningful celebration of the love her and Trey share and founded in the relational stepping stones that constitute their trusting path leading up to this vow. The way Trey’s eyes lit up as Jen came down the aisle… in the way he embraced and held her… reaching for her hand each time he was at her side… the two have found an undeniably beautiful marriage.

As if I wasn’t hooked enough on how perfect their day was, Jennifer wore her mother’s ethereal gown and cap veil, complimented with her aunt’s pearls.
