Meagan | Bridals

courtneywoodhamphoto-277-copy

Meagan made a beautiful bride and the illuminating light that filled the skies during her bridal session was an adequate representation of the infectious light she so effortlessly imparts to those around her. Throughout the planning of her wedding, she frequently mentioned that many aspects of their wedding day “might not be great” but it was her. At every mention of this, I heeded against her worries with reminders that a wedding is a ceremony unifying two persons before Christ, followed by a celebration of those persons and the love and life they have chosen to share… all of which occurs because of two people; her wedding should in fact, be her.

In the end, her loose curls and flowing braid, the touch of baby’s breath, her simplistic studded earrings, her ballet slippers… were all the breathtaking outworkings of her just choosing to be her. Even through my reassurances, I don’t think that I could ever fully express to Meagan the joy and awe I held for her desire to exalt the purpose and significance of marriage, Christ through that marriage, and humility through it all. To say again, in light of this, Meagan made a beautiful bride.

“The event of falling in love is of such a nature that we are right to reject as intolerable the idea that it should be transitory. In one high bound it has overleaped the massive of our selfhood; it has made appetite itself altruistic, tossed personal happiness aside as a triviality and planted the interests of another in the centre of our being. Spontaneously and without effort we have fulfilled the law (towards one person) by loving our neighbour as ourselves. It is an image, a foretaste, of what we must become to all if Love Himself rules in us without a rival. It is even (well used) a preparation for that.”

Tori & Will | Small Town Farm Engagement

courtneywoodhamphoto-3-78

When Will and Tori reached out to me to document their engagement, I could tell they both knew exactly what they wanted – to embrace home. For them, a physical and structural home has looked like several different places over the last few years; but in spite of and because of the distance, they’ve found that home isn’t a physical location at all. Home truly lies with the other – in love, in family, in relationship. Will found home on the family farm and upon their marriage in the Spring, Tori will move to join him there. To see the pride, excitement, and pure contentment in Tori’s eyes as she talked about the farm and all Will does to help run the family business, I knew that there was no better place to celebrate their engagement than the place that would soon provide them both a physical home together. I adore these two and everything they encompass as a couple. My heart craved to create images for them that could somehow measure up to the transparent and beautiful love they share. Seriously, these two couldn’t be more down to earth if they tried.  I so have a thing for sincere and genuine people; my heart strings get all tangled up.

On a side note, golden hour has had nothing on these Fall sunsets lately. I am in awe, daily.

Megan | Fall Portraits

courtneywoodhamphoto-2-10

Megan and I recently took an afternoon to escape to a local farm and embrace all the Fall vibes. A few days ago, I posted on Instagram (follow along: @courtney_woodham) about Megan being the chaos in my life, but in such a good way. She’s that friend who thrives off those last minute, ride by the seat of your pants, split second decisions… and when I’m with her, I do too. It’s actually been a huge learning curve to figure out how not to plan. Any of you that know me, know that my calendar is quite literally my lifeline. There’s really been a lot of freedom in learning how to forget all the requirements for just a little while and find my wanderlust.

Once in a while, I love an opportunity to play with apparel. Megan chose several natural and earthy inspired looks, which I completely loved! As the golden hour came to a close, we thought it would be fun to get a few barefoot in the cornfield… I think these turned out to be my favorite!

Last week, we took a last minute day trip to Atlanta and I am so excited to get scans back and see those images! I can’t wait for our next adventure!

Laney | ‘Something Blue’ Bridal Shower

courtneywoodhamphoto-3-13

This week is the last week in preparation for my sister, Laney’s, wedding. Over the last months, as each milestone of the planning has passed, a flood of bittersweet, mixed emotions have pulled at my heart strings. Laney made the statement several times over the last few months that “things will never be the same again,” how true this is. This week also marks a year of marriage for Justin and I and those mixed emotions have only grown stronger as I realize our wedding day is another memory… a day that we will never be able to relive and be physically present in again. In those moments, it feels as though you couldn’t be happier and more fulfilled, and when you look back, you feel still yet, maybe you didn’t cherish them enough. If only you had felt the gravity of that first kiss as husband and wife, when he took your hand to turn and face all those who love and celebrate with you so well as you’re announced Mr. and Mrs, the first time you signed a new last name to yours, and as you cut the cake and toast to forever; those moments and the gravity that they’ll never happen again, but also the joy, as there is an abundance of moments just as special, to happen in all the years ahead. As all these thoughts flooded my mind this week, I have also thought about my heart toward my sister getting married and really wanting the ability to share with her the importance of finding that joy and fulfillment, and also peace in the midst of the chaos of planning a wedding. I want her to be able to reflect a year from now and know without a shadow of a doubt that she cherished every moment.

As we began planning her bridal shower, above all, my heart was for her to know how loved she is. She has shown me immeasurable love and given me more strength than she will ever know and I wanted for her to feel an outpouring of that same love and to know how proud I am of her and for her. There have been several nights over the last months that she has so willingly shared her heart with me, and as a family, we have all felt so overwhelmingly blessed to have family and friends surrounding us. I am forever thankful for all of those that shared in celebrating her and poured out love over her and Cody.

The theme, “Something Blue,” came as I observed her love for the tradition of a wedding while embodying an elegant and feminine feel. Everyone that attended the shower wore a shade of blue in honor of the bride, and of course, Laney wore white. It turned out to be adorable!
